The Original Ed Giese Harmonic Percolator HP-1 Software Model

An extremely accurate software model of Ed Giese’s original Harmonic Percolator HP-1 guitar fuzz pedal. The pedal that was modeled was hand built by Ed Giese himself and hasn’t been modified in any way. It has stayed in the family and was passed down from generation to generation. It has belonged to Aaron Giese, Ed Giese’s grandson, since the late 1990s. The HP-1 was modeled using machine learning technology. Both ToneX and Neural Amp Modeler (NAM) formats are included. 16 different settings of the original HP-1 were modeled.

Also included are 3 guitar cabinet models, instructions, a note from Aaron Giese, and as a bonus, some InterFax memorabilia.

Before purchasing, please make sure your computer meets the minimum specifications to run ToneX or Neural Amp Modeler.

Geeztown Guitar Tones

After creating models of the Harmonic Percolator, I realized that I had many other rare and vintage amps and pedals that would be worth modeling. Everything I modeled I created first and foremost for my own personal use as a producer, engineer, and guitar player. I’m extremely happy with how they sound and I find them very useful. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Includes:

  • 20 vintage and rare guitar amp and pedal models
  • 3 bass models.
  • 19 vintage, rare, and custom built speaker cabinet impulse response models.
  • 479 possible tones (437 amp and cab combinations plus 42 using either only the amp or only the cab)
  • Includes both NAM (Neural Amp Modeler) and ToneX versions.
  • Works on any guitar, bass, or other sound source.
  • Made in the USA.

Ed Giese: Master of Electronics

Ed Giese, creator of the Harmonic Percolator, was a master in electronics.  He spent most of his career creating things that never existed before.  He had revolutionary ideas and he helped pioneer multi-track recording in the 1950's and 60's.  Ed hand built the first solid state multi track recording console in the USA for the very first commercially available multi-track tape machine.

In the late 1970's, Ed once again wanted to create something new that hadn't been done before.  After several years of research and development, Ed came up with a unique fuzz pedal circuit design that emphasized even order harmonics.

To this day college professors, circuit designers, guitar pedal enthusiasts, and tinkerers are still talking about the uniqueness of Ed's Harmonic Percolator circuit design.

Rare And Impossible To Clone

Ed hand built and sold his Harmonic Percolator along with other devices he created through his repair shop, InterFax, and other local Milwaukee music stores.  No one knows for sure, but based on everything we do know, fewer than 100 pedals were made before Ed passed away from ALS in 1993.

The Harmonic Percolator didn't become popular until renowned producer and guitarist Steve Albini started talking about it in interviews in the 1990's, after Ed passed away.

With no more Harmonic Percolators being made, people tried to create clones of the original.  However, Ed took precautions to prevent people from copying his circuit design.  He covered up the components with jeweler's wax, epoxy, and sanded off serial numbers. Ed also glued pieces over the top of components disguising them, and he used military components that were hard to find.

With so few pedals made, and no clear way to accurately recreate the circuit, many fake Harmonic Percolators were made that sounded nothing like the original.  Steve Albini even reviewed one such pedal and showed how it was inferior in a video demonstration.
